The eye is small, but well positioned,
To see far and wide,
And for long hours.
Little distractions affect proper seeing.
Dust may enter the eye,
But the owner can wipe it away
And continue seeing.
Then comes the log—
Too big, too wide, and shapeless,
So huge it can cover the entire eye,
Blocking a clear view;
The eye may not see well.

The log may sometimes disappear,
Then reappear.
Any size of log can fit any eye—funny.
When I try to remove a log
From someone else’s eye,
The log in my own eye grows huge,
Yet I cannot notice it.
Another person, however, can see it.
The log in my eye can be removed by myself,
Because I know it is there
And I can deal with it.
For it blocks my clear view.
This is possible when I decide to.
Every eye has a log.
