Dr Emily Matoke, daughter of the late former Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, has declared her intention to make a second attempt at the county’s Women Representative seat in the 2027 General Election.
Dr Matoke, who launched her bid during an interdenominational service at Nyamwetureko Primary School, pledged to offer KSh1,000 in transport assistance to young people who register as voters and those collecting their national identity cards from registration offices and Huduma Centres across the county.

She expressed concern over the number of uncollected identity cards in Nyamira, saying more than 16,000 cards were yet to be collected.
She said the financial support was intended to encourage young people to obtain their identification documents and participate in the electoral process.
Dr Matoke is making a second attempt at the seat after contesting in the 2022 General Election on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
She came second with 72,434 votes, losing to the incumbent, Jerusha Momanyi, who contested on a Jubilee Party ticket and garnered 84,843 votes.
Dr Matoke is the daughter of Nyamira’s first governor, John Nyagarama, who died in December 2020 while serving his second term in office.
During the launch, she pledged to prioritise improving the living standards of Nyamira residents through job creation and industrialisation.
She said her agenda would focus on creating economic opportunities for residents and promoting industries that could stimulate development across the county.
