The programme seeks to equip health workers with practical skills to detect, isolate, manage and contain diseases such as Ebola, while also developing a pool of regional trainers who can pass the skills on to colleagues in their respective countries.

Its revival is part of renewed efforts to strengthen regional capital markets as the bloc advances preparations for the East African Monetary Union.

The region recorded a trade surplus of $300 million, compared with a deficit of $945.3 million a year earlier.

The Secretary General also stressed the need to increase public awareness of the EAC integration process and demonstrate its practical benefits to citizens across the region.

Moturi said Kenya must ensure its enforcement of immigration laws is consistent with the Constitution, the East African Community (EAC) Treaty and international agreements protecting migrant workers and human rights.

The survey will assess users’ views on the quality, relevance, reliability, timeliness, accessibility and usefulness of EAC regional statistics.
