Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has defended his administration’s development record, promising to fulfil its manifesto commitments before the 2027 General Election.
Nyaribo said his administration expects to have delivered 90 per cent of its development blueprint by April 2027, arguing that leaders should be judged by what they have achieved rather than by political rhetoric.

Speaking at Riokenye in Borabu Subcounty during the launch of an e-voucher livestock vaccination campaign and the issuance of farmers’ inclusion grants worth Sh38.6 million, the governor outlined a series of programmes implemented since he took office in 2022.
Nyaribo announced an aggressive two-month, farm-to-farm vaccination campaign against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), targeting more than 113,800 cattle across the county.
“I am pleased to officially launch this e-voucher vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease, as we also issue grants to farmers’ organisations,” Nyaribo said.
He said vaccination was a proactive measure to prevent FMD, which poses a threat to the livestock subsector and, by extension, food security.
Under the subsidy programme, the county government will pay Sh110 per head of cattle, while farmers will contribute only Sh50.
As part of efforts to strengthen agriculture, Nyaribo distributed Sh32.6 million in inclusion grants and a further Sh3.8 million to support 40 Farmer-Led Demonstration farms.
“This huge investment is aimed at building a productive, profitable and climate-resilient economy,” he said.
Nyansiongo Ward Member of County Assembly Jackson Mogusu welcomed the funding, saying it would support agricultural activities while calling for increased sensitisation to bring more cooperatives into the programme.
“The cheques are to support agriculture. We need sensitisation to bring more cooperatives on board,” Mogusu said.
Nyaribo also outlined measures his administration was taking to address challenges in the health sector, including drug shortages and inadequate medical infrastructure.
He said the county government would inject an additional Sh200 million into the health fund to strengthen it and ensure a continuous supply of medicines.
“My administration will add Sh200 million to strengthen the fund and ensure continuous supply of drugs,” Nyaribo said.
Other initiatives
The governor also announced a Sh65 million partnership with the Safaricom Foundation to construct a mother-and-child unit at Nyansiongo Subcounty Hospital.
“We will partner with Safaricom to build a mother and child unit at Nyansiongo Subcounty Hospital, alongside a Sh104 million allocation to equip the hospital,” he said.
Nyaribo said the county had procured 10 new dialysis machines for Nyamira County Referral Hospital and planned to acquire another 30 during the current financial year.
The additional machines will be distributed to Nyamira County Referral Hospital, Masaba Level 4 Subcounty Hospital in Keroka and Ekerenyo, with some expected to be sent to Nyansiongo.
On infrastructure, Nyaribo pledged that all roads targeted by his administration would be completed before the 2027 elections.
He said at least 20 kilometres of roads had been completed under Phase One of the Barabara Mashinani Project in more than half of the county’s wards. Phase Two of the programme is expected to begin in January 2027.
In education and skills development, the governor highlighted a partnership with the KCB Foundation that has provided full scholarships to 700 trainees in Vocational Training Centres (VTCs). His administration, he said, has also provided partial scholarships to more than 2,000 other trainees.
Nyaribo further said his administration had introduced digital learning in all 408 public Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres under its education programmes.
He attributed an increase in ECDE enrolment to the UjiAfya programme, saying the number of learners had risen from 28,000 to 35,000 since its introduction.
“The UjiAfya programme has increased the number of learners in ECDEs from 28,000 to 35,000 upon its introduction,” he said.
Nyaribo concluded by urging residents to maintain peace as the country approaches the 2027 election campaign period.
“As political temperatures begin to rise ahead of the upcoming polls, I urge you to maintain peace and respect each other,” he said.
