Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has been ranked ninth among Kenya’s 47 governors in the inaugural Swiss Poll International Champions of Progress Awards 2026.
The ranking, released after an assessment covering the period from January to August 2026, placed Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru first, followed by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti.

Swiss Poll International said the assessment focused on development performance, leadership, service delivery and citizen feedback.
The organisation said it surveyed more than 15,000 respondents across all 47 counties, conducted 94 focus group discussions and 235 key informant interviews, and reviewed official government records, parliamentary data and other performance indicators.
It said the rankings were based on evidence, citizen feedback and measurable results rather than popularity.
Nyaribo welcomed the recognition and attributed his county administration’s performance to his team and residents.
“I am deeply grateful to my great team for their sheer resolve in service delivery, and the great people of Nyamira County for their solid support for my administration,” he said.
The awards ceremony also featured rankings for Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and Members of Parliament.
Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku was ranked the best-performing Cabinet Secretary, followed by National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.
State Department for Energy Principal Secretary Alex Kamau Wachira topped the Principal Secretaries’ category.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro emerged first among Members of Parliament, followed by Eldas MP Aden Keynan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Swiss Poll International’s country coordinator urged voters to consider leaders’ records, accountability, performance and manifestos when making choices in the 2027 General Election.
The coordinator said voters should look beyond political parties and personalities when evaluating candidates.
Swiss Poll International said the awards seek to promote performance, accountability, innovation and citizen participation in public service.
