The legacy of veteran journalist Moses Radoli could soon live on in a new generation of young digital talent in Busia County.

This follows a proposal by the Busia County Government to establish a modern ICT hub at Kisoko in Nambale Constituency, according to a story published online by Angaza News.

Governor Dr Paul Otuoma will establish the facility in honour of Radoli, a pioneer journalist who was laid to rest on Sunday at his home in Nayombe Village.

The announcement was made by County Executive Committee Member for Water Peter Odima, who represented Governor Otuoma at the burial ceremony.

Odima said the County Government, working with other stakeholders, fully supports the proposal and has already identified County Government land in the Kisoko area that could be considered for the project.

“The Governor has heard your request and we support this cause fully. There is land belonging to the County Government in Kisoko area which we shall consider for this noble project in honour of our son Radoli,” Odima told mourners.

The request for the ICT hub had been made by veteran journalist Ken Bosire on behalf of the Kenya Editors’ Guild and journalists who attended Radoli’s funeral.

Bosire also appealed to Daystar University, which was well represented at the burial, to join the initiative by providing technical assistance and mentorship.

Odima challenged members of the media fraternity to form a steering committee that would work with the County Government to drive the project to completion.

Kenya Correspondents Association Director of Programmes Oloo Janak, who also attended the burial, called for journalists based in Busia to work with the Director of Communications in the Office of the Governor, Oscar Obonyo, to create a forum for a Moses Radoli Talk.

The forum, he said, could serve as both a groundbreaking and launch event for the proposed ICT hub.

If realised, the centre is expected to become an important digital resource for young people in the region. It will provide free and affordable training in computer literacy and digital skills to hundreds of unemployed youths.

The hub will also provide high-speed internet access, enabling young people to pursue online employment opportunities, access e-government services and undertake e-learning without having to travel to Busia town.

At the heart of the proposed facility will also be a community media component designed to nurture young people interested in journalism and digital content creation.

The facility is expected to provide training and mentorship in writing, reporting, photography and digital content creation, helping young people follow in the footsteps of Radoli, whose career helped shape journalism in the region.

The proposed hub would serve as a living tribute to Radoli’s legacy of truth, professionalism and community service.
