Kenya has welcomed World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) President Witold Bańka for a two-day high-level visit aimed at strengthening the country’s anti-doping programme and reinforcing its commitment to clean and credible sport.

Bańka was received on Sunday by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, alongside Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) Board Chairman Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu, Acting ADAK Chief Executive Officer Peninah Wahome, WADA Africa Director Rodney Swigelaar and former rugby international and clean sport champion Humphrey Kayange.

Also present was Christine Mugera of the Regional Anti-Doping Organization (RADO), among other government officials and stakeholders in Kenya’s sporting sector.

During his visit, Bańka is expected to hold meetings with senior government officials and key players in Kenya’s sporting ecosystem as part of efforts to assess progress in strengthening the country’s anti-doping framework.

The discussions will also focus on measures required to protect athletes and ensure Kenya continues to meet international anti-doping standards.

Bańka is also scheduled to engage the media on Tuesday as part of his programme.

The visit comes as Kenya continues to strengthen its institutions, systems and partnerships in the fight against doping, amid growing global scrutiny of the integrity of competitive sport.

Kenya is one of the world’s leading athletics nations and has previously faced international anti-doping concerns, making effective testing, education, enforcement and athlete protection central to maintaining the credibility of its sporting programme.

The WADA president’s visit is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for Kenya and the global anti-doping body to assess progress and identify areas requiring further action.

The engagements are also expected to reinforce cooperation between Kenya and WADA in protecting athletes and promoting fair competition.
