A police officer was found dead in bushes in Kagira, Kabete, days after her husband allegedly reported that he had killed her, while police in Kisii investigate the disappearance of a loaded G-3 rifle from a patrol base.
The two separate incidents have prompted investigations by police in Nairobi and Kisii counties.

In Kabete, officers recovered the body of Sergeant Gladys Nyaguthe Kirika, 46, in bushes at Kagira after her husband, identified as Patrick Chege, reportedly told police that he had killed her and dumped her body in the area.
According to a police report, officers from Kabete Police Station responded to the report and mounted a search in the area, where they found the body of an adult woman.
The deceased had visible injuries to the head, which police suspect may have been inflicted with a blunt object. She also had injuries on her left hand, while marks on her legs were suspected to have been caused by tight binding with a rope.
Police recovered a hammer and a Maasai sword at the scene, which were preserved as exhibits.
The deceased was identified through documents found during a body search, including a Certificate of Appointment, as Sgt Kirika, who was attached to Subuiga Police Station in Buuri West Sub-County, Meru County.
The scene was processed by scene-of-crime officers before the body was moved to PCEA Kikuyu Funeral Home, where it was booked under admission number 779, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The suspect is currently admitted at St Luke’s Hospital in Kinoo after allegedly attempting to take his own life.
Police said the murder case was being handled by the Divisional Criminal Investigations Office in Dagoretti.
LOADED G-3 RIFLE DISAPPEARS
Meanwhile, police in Kisii have launched investigations after a loaded G-3 rifle and ammunition reportedly went missing from the house of a police officer at Riosiri Patrol Base in Nyamarambe.
The incident was reported by Corporal Moses Wafula, the officer in charge of the armoury at the patrol base.
According to the police report, firearms assigned to the officer are ordinarily secured in a steel box inside his house.
Wafula told investigators that he had removed the G-3 rifle from the steel box on August 31 and concealed it underneath a mattress in his bedroom.
He discovered that the firearm was missing on Monday morning when he attempted to return it to the steel box.
A preliminary examination of the premises found no apparent signs of forced entry or break-in, according to police.
OFFICER HELD
Following the report, the South Kisii Deputy County Police Commander, South Kisii Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer and the Officer Commanding Nyamarambe Police Station, together with their respective teams, visited the scene and commenced investigations.
Police officers also combed the area as investigations continued in an effort to recover the missing firearm and ammunition.
The officer responsible for the firearm has since been placed in police custody to assist investigators establish how the weapon disappeared.
Police have classified the case as pending under inquiry, with a progress report expected as investigations continue.
The two incidents are being investigated separately by police in the respective jurisdictions.
