The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said detectives arrested Jackson Otieno Bambo, also known as James Babu Olang, in Kirongwe, Shirati District, where he had allegedly been hiding while operating a club.
Odoyo was found murdered inside her house in Athi River on May 9, 2024, triggering investigations that led detectives across the border in pursuit of her suspected killer.
According to the DCI, intelligence placed Bambo in Kirongwe, about 70 kilometres from the Muhuru border point, prompting detectives from Athi River and Nyatike to coordinate with Tanzanian law enforcement officers.
“At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a Tanzanian national identity card bearing the name James Babu Olang,” the DCI said, adding that the document had become part of the ongoing investigations.
The agency said the suspect was first booked at Nyatike Police Station before being transferred to Athi River Police Station, where he remains in custody pending arraignment on a murder charge.
The arrest marks a major development in a case that had remained unresolved for two years, with investigators pursuing leads to establish the circumstances of Odoyo’s killing and bring the suspect before a court.
The DCI said the operation demonstrated the importance of cross-border cooperation in tracking suspects who flee beyond Kenya’s jurisdiction.
It reaffirmed its commitment to working with local and international law enforcement agencies to ensure that suspects in serious crimes are brought to justice.
Bambo is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
