Kelvin Metto and Catherine Wambui emerged as the leading performers as the NCBA Golf Series made its latest stop at the par-70 Ruiru Sports Club, attracting 277 golfers for the weekend tournament.
Metto claimed the Overall Men’s Gross title after carding 69 gross off a handicap of two, edging Benard Omondi on countback after the handicap-zero golfer also returned 69 gross.

John Timbe finished third with 72 gross, playing off handicap one.
Metto said he was delighted with the victory, particularly given the size and quality of the field, and vowed to maintain his form ahead of the season-ending Grand Finale.
“It feels great to come out on top today, especially in a field of this size. I had a good round and managed to stay focused throughout the game,” said Metto.
“The Grand Finale is also something I am looking forward to, and I will now work on maintaining this form,” he added.
In the ladies’ competition, Wambui took the Overall Lady Gross title after returning 80 gross off a handicap of six.
The victory also secured her a place at the Grand Finale, a prospect that added to her delight.
“I am very happy with the win. It was a good day on the course and I am pleased with how I played,” Wambui said.
“The opportunity to qualify for the Grand Finale makes the win even more special, and I am looking forward to competing at Karen,” she added.
Erastus Ouko won the Division Two Men’s title with 41 Stableford points off handicap 21, while Lucy Mwangi topped Division Two Ladies with 40 points off handicap 24.
Mwangi Macharia claimed Division Three with 40 points off handicap 30, while Shawn Mwita emerged as the leading junior after scoring 39 Stableford points off handicap 31.
Battle for the honours
The top performers earned qualification for the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale, scheduled for November at Karen Country Club, where qualifiers from the various legs will battle for the season’s honours.
Speaking after the tournament, NCBA Nord Branch Manager Francis Wangui said the strong turnout at Ruiru underlined the growing popularity of the series and its role in giving golfers opportunities to compete and advance through the season.
“With 277 golfers on the course, the Ruiru leg has once again demonstrated the strong interest in the NCBA Golf Series,” Wangui said.
“We are particularly pleased to see golfers across the different categories earn their places in the Grand Finale, and we look forward to welcoming them to Karen in November,” he added.
The Ruiru tournament is part of the 2026 NCBA Golf Series, which continues to provide golfers across different handicap categories with competitive opportunities at club level while offering a pathway to the season-ending Grand Finale.
