Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has urged students across the country to remain focused and work hard, emphasising that success is a journey built on determination, discipline and perseverance.
Speaking at the annual prize-giving ceremony at Sironga Girls High School on Friday, the CS congratulated students who excelled in their examinations and encouraged those who did not receive awards not to lose hope.

“Education is a journey,” said Ogamba. “Every student who is willing to work hard should endure the challenges that come along the way in order to achieve success.”
He noted that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is nurturing learners with relevant knowledge and skills to prepare them for the future. “The new system seems to nurture students with good knowledge,” he added.
The colourful ceremony drew leaders from across the country, including West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka, Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Mwingi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Taita Taveta MP John Mbwire and nominated MP Rene Mayaka.
Mogaka thanked the Education CS for honouring the invitation and commended the more than six legislators who spared time from their busy schedules to attend.
He praised Sironga Girls for maintaining a strong academic record and producing responsible citizens over the years and encouraged the students to remain focused on academic excellence and pursue their dreams, emphasizing that education remains the greatest equalizer in society.
On her part, Momanyi urged parents to inspire and support girls, describing them as the future leaders of the country.
“We need to inspire them because they are the big women in this country,” she said.
She also called on students to remain disciplined and obedient to their parents and teachers, while appealing to the Ministry of Education to provide the school with a new bus to ease transport challenges.
Mutuse lauded Sironga Girls for building a strong reputation and producing graduates who continue to make positive contributions to society.
“These students will get education and help every Kenyan out there,” he said, adding that President William Ruto’s administration has prioritised education to ensure learners are equipped with knowledge and skills needed in the modern world.
On his part, Mbwire encouraged the students to stay focused on their studies and avoid activities that could endanger their future.
“Something good will come from Sironga just as it came from Nazareth,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Mayaka urged learners to shun tribalism and embrace unity and diversity.
She encouraged the girls to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams with confidence.
“You are as capable as the boy child,” she said.
The ceremony not only celebrated academic excellence but also served as a platform for leaders to inspire students to become disciplined, hardworking and responsible citizens who will shape the future of the country.
The guests also launched a basketball court at the school, noting that such a facility would help tap and nurture extra-curricular talent.
The court was funded by West Mugirango’s National Government- Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), which is patronized by Mogaka.
MP Mogaka who is the kitty fund patron said the court was a significant milestone aimed at nurturing talent and promoting sports excellence among learners.
