Chajira joins a distinguished group of 31 elite athletes chosen by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Federations to mentor and inspire young participants during the Games.
The Athlete Role Model Programme is a cornerstone of the Youth Olympics, designed to guide the next generation through mentorship sessions, workshops, and daily interactions in the Youth Olympic Village.
A two-time Olympian (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020), Chajira has been a pillar of Kenya’s women’s rugby for over a decade.
Her career highlights include appearances at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, an African Championships gold medal, and victory at the 2025 Challenger Series.
Off the pitch, she is a certified World Rugby Level 2 coach and a passionate advocate for the growth of women’s sport in Kenya.
Reflecting on her appointment, Chajira said “This is a humbling opportunity. I have had the honour of representing my country for over 11 years, and now I get to support and guide young athletes from around the world. It feels like a different kind of responsibility, but one I am ready for.”
She added: “I am excited to answer this call of duty. It is a big milestone in my career, and I look forward to sharing my experiences as an Olympian and as a player who has grown through the sport.”
Her message to young athletes was equally inspiring: “Be patient and kind to yourself. Do not compare your journey to others. Your time will come—trust it, even when it feels slow.”
With less than 200 days to Dakar 2026, Team Kenya celebrates Chajira’s recognition as a testament to her leadership and dedication.
Her appointment follows another milestone for Kenya, with Humphrey Kayange serving as Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Games.
