Kenyan Senator Essy Okenyuri has been recognised at the Commonwealth Youth Development Summit 2026 held at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
Okenyuri got awarded for her dedication and advancement of education, governance and human rights.

In posts shared on her official social media platforms, the nominated senator described the recognition as a significant milestone, while emphasizing collective effort in youth development.
“Profoundly honoured today to have been recognised… I accept this recognition with deep humility, fully cognizant that it is not an individual milestone but a reflection of the trust, resilience and shared vision of the communities, partners and young people,” she said.
Okenyuri noted that the summit brings together youth practitioners, policymakers and changemakers from across Commonwealth countries to deliberate on the future of youth development.
She added that her work in the Senate and through the Essy Okenyuri Nyaituga Foundation continues to be shaped by young people’s voices.
“With renewed determination, I remain committed to championing transformative policies… and advancing sustainable pathways that ensure young people have the opportunity not only to participate in shaping their future but to actively define it,” she stated.
The senator also shared details of her arrival at Oxford, describing the summit as “an extremely pivotal platform” featuring a high-level gala and engagements with over 100 youth leaders and policymakers.
The annual summit focuses on advancing dialogue around youth policy, education and economic empowerment across Commonwealth nations.
