Former Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior, Dr. Fred Matiang’i is lately making strategic political inroads across the country as he eyes the presidency in 2027.
On Friday, Dr Matiang’i was in Narok County, where he was welcomed and hosted by area politician Richard Moitalel Ole Kenta.

The visit reflected Dr. Matiang’i’s growing outreach to various regions and key political leaders.
Insiders say the former CS has decided to intensify consultations and consensus-building efforts across the country.
He was accompanied by Senators Richard Onyonka and Okong’o Omogeni of Kisii and Nyamira respectively.
Also in his company was veteran politician Prof. Sam Ongeri, and Dr. Richard Bosire.
Dr. Matiang’i’s delegation underscored a show of unity and purpose, especially among leaders from the Gusii region who have publicly declared their support in his presidential ambitions.
The Maa region leaders reiterated the need for national unity, inclusive leadership, and the restoration of integrity in public service.
They said these are the values that Dr. Matiang’i showcased during his tenure in the last government.
Kenta praised Dr Matiang’i’s administrative track record, citing his time as Interior CS as one marked by firmness, order, and people-centered service delivery.
This latest tour comes in the wake of Dr. Matiang’i’s homecoming ceremony in Kisii recently, where leaders from across the political divide urged him to get set and offer Kenyans a viable alternative in the upcoming elections.
True to that call, Dr. Matiang’i is now actively engaging grassroots leaders and communities, as he lays the groundwork for a national campaign.
“Kenya is in dire need of a leader who will bring back sanity in government and ensure every Kenyan receives equal opportunities and services, said Onyonka.
“That leader is Dr. Fred Matiang’i.”
The former CS’s engagements are expected to intensify in the coming months, with more visits lined up across the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, the Coast, Northern Kenya among other areas.
Should the momentum continue, Dr. Matiang’i positions himself as a leading contender for the presidency, championing governance reforms, national cohesion, and dignified leadership, according to his supporters.
