Equity Bank has cemented its dominance in the financial sector after being named Africa’s strongest banking brand and Kenya’s most valuable brand in the latest Brand Finance report.

The 2026 rankings awarded Equity a Brand Strength Index score of 93.9 out of 100 and an elite AAA+ rating, placing it among the ten strongest banking brands worldwide.

The recognition highlights the lender’s growing influence, driven by its purpose-led model, expanding digital services, and strong regional presence that continue to inspire customer trust and market confidence.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to innovation and inclusivity in banking,” the bank stated.

Officials noted that the bank’s strategy has consistently focused on empowering communities and businesses across East Africa.

Regionally, South Africa’s Capitec Bank and First National Bank followed closely behind, underscoring the dominance of East and Southern Africa in shaping the continent’s financial landscape.

Equity’s leadership was further reinforced by its valuation of USD 554 million (Ksh 71.6 billion), making it Kenya’s most valuable brand.

It surpassed household names such as Safaricom, valued at USD 453 million, alongside KCB Group, M-Pesa, and Co-operative Bank of Kenya.

Brand Finance, which evaluates more than 5,000 of the world’s largest brands annually, measures brand strength, financial performance, and stakeholder perception.

Equity’s strong showing in both brand strength and value positions it for sustained growth, particularly as it expands its footprint in digital banking, SME financing, and regional trade.

“This recognition is not just about numbers—it is about the trust our customers place in us every day,” Equity noted.

With its AAA+ rating and top valuation, the bank has reaffirmed its role as a continental leader and a symbol of Kenya’s growing influence in global finance.
