Oh, eye, you were created to see,
To behold all that’s visible in day and night’s decree.

But when darkness falls, you struggle to perceive,
Leaving the nocturnals to navigate with ease.
You see all, even when you’re not meant to,
A constant observer, never at rest.
You examine and scrutinize, then blink away
The unpleasant sights, or turn to flee.
With books, you tire quickly, growing weary and worn,
Your lids heavy, your gaze withdrawn.
But with those that bring you joy, you linger and stay,
Drinking in the words, in a gentle, loving way.
Your positioning, a pair, was well-designed,
Each one complementing the other, a harmonious alignment.
When one grows dim or injured, the other takes its place,
Serving the purpose of two, with a steady, unwavering gaze.
Had you been positioned on the hand, you’d be prone to harm,
Pricked and dirty, a vulnerable, exposed form.
But on the head, you’re safe, a protected, sacred space,
A window to the world, a lens to the human face.
Oh, eye, I yearn for a third eye, another lens to see,
Positioned at the back of my head,
a watchful guardian, vigilant and free.
Then I could behold all that unfolds behind,
The backbiters, the followers, the critics, and the unkind.
I’d see the sneers, the barbs, the jealous glances cast,
The ones who seek to overtake me, and leave me aghast.
A third eye would save my life, a warning system true,
A chance to cheat death, to turn and look anew.
Oh heavens, I appeal to you, grant me this boon,
A third eye, a gift, a treasure, a blessing to be known.
If my prayers are answered, I’ll ask you to see more,
To glance at all that’s hidden, and reveal it to my core.
Third eye, you’ll be alone at the back, but don’t be afraid,
For I’ll guide you, direct you, and help you to convey.
You’ll learn to lash and open, to close and to see,
A new dimension, a new perspective, a new reality.
Getting used to you, third eye, will take time, I confess,
A period of adjustment, a learning curve, a new finesse.
But I’m willing to adapt, to prepare and to grow,
To see the world in three dimensions, and all its secrets to know.
