Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni Muriuki has assured Kenyans that the Government is stepping up surveillance and preparedness measures amid concerns over Ebola.

She urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, rely on verified information and continue with normal activities as health authorities monitor the situation.

Muriuki said surveillance operations were ongoing, with screening being conducted at all points of entry and relevant agencies working together to strengthen the country’s preparedness.

Speaking during a church service at ACK St Barnabas Mururi, the PS urged Kenyans to rely on verified information from the Ministry of Health and adhere to established public health guidelines.

She said people who had interacted with the patient had been isolated as part of routine public health measures aimed at preventing possible transmission.

The PS cautioned against spreading unverified information, emphasising the need for calm and unity as health authorities continued with surveillance and preparedness efforts.

She encouraged the public to maintain proper hand hygiene, observe sanitation measures and follow public health protocols to reduce the risk of preventable diseases.

Muriuki also urged the media, which she described as the Fourth Estate, to work closely with the Government in disseminating accurate and timely information to the public.

She said a meeting with media stakeholders was expected in the coming week to strengthen collaboration on public health communication and help prevent unnecessary public anxiety.

The Government has called on Kenyans to remain alert, follow official health advisories and continue their daily activities as the relevant agencies coordinate surveillance and response measures.
