The Equitable Party (TEP) has begun the process of changing its name to Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM), following a resolution by its National Executive Committee.
In a letter dated October 15, 2026, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties confirmed that it had initiated the process of gazetting the proposed name change in accordance with the Political Parties Act.

The party’s National Executive Committee approved the change at a meeting held on October 8, 2026, before submitting the required documents to the registrar.
In the letter addressed to the party’s secretary-general, Registrar of Political Parties and Chief Executive Officer J. C. Lorionokou said the office had received and reviewed the documents supporting the proposed rebranding.
“Upon review of the documents, this Office has initiated the process of gazettement of the proposed change of party name,” the letter stated.
The documents submitted included the notice and signed attendance list of the October 8 NEC meeting, the committee’s resolution, the statutory form for changing a party name and evidence that the proposed change had been published.
The party published the notice in the Daily Nation on October 10, 2026, and on its official website.
However, the proposed name change is subject to a public representations process under Section 20 of the Political Parties Act.
The registrar has asked the party to report any representations received from the public after the expiry of 14 days from the date of publication in the newspaper, together with details of how the concerns have been addressed.
The letter states that the requirement is in accordance with Section 20(4) of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D.
The proposed rebranding would see the party replace The Equitable Party with Linda Mwananchi Movement, although the correspondence confirms the initiation of the gazettement process rather than the completion of the name change.
