The National Assembly’s Decentralized Funds Accounts Committee (DFAC) on Tuesday continued its examination of Auditor-General reports for constituencies in the Coast Region, as part of a week-long report-writing retreat in Mombasa.
The committee reviewed audited accounts for nine constituencies for the financial years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025, in an exercise aimed at strengthening parliamentary oversight of public funds and constituency development expenditure.

Constituencies under review were Lunga Lunga, Matuga, Msambweni, Kilifi North, Kilifi South, Kaloleni, Rabai, Ganze and Malindi.
The reviews form part of the committee’s mandate to scrutinize audit reports and examine matters relating to the management and accountability of public resources allocated for development projects.
The examination provides Parliament with an opportunity to assess financial management practices, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and the adequacy of supporting documentation for reported expenditure.
It also helps in identifying outstanding audit queries and determining appropriate recommendations and follow-up actions.
The Mombasa retreat happening for the better part of this week brings together committee business and report-writing activities covering constituencies across the Coast Region.

The scrutiny is scheduled to continue on Wednesday, October 28, with reviews covering Magarini, Taveta, Wundanyi, Mwatate, Voi, Garsen, Galole and Bura.
The committee will then turn to the consideration and adoption of reports covering constituencies in other regions before considering the 25th Report, comprising 26 Coast Region constituencies, on Friday, October 30.
The retreat is expected to culminate in the completion of the scheduled committee business ahead of the secretariat’s departure for Nairobi on Saturday, October 31.
The review of audit reports is a key component of parliamentary oversight, intended to promote transparency, accountability and prudent use of public funds.
The Decentralized Funds Accounts Committee is chaired by Dr Gideon Mutemi Mulyungi, with Hon. Gertrude Mbeyu Mwanyanje serving as Vice-Chairperson.
The committee includes Stephen Mogaka, MP for West Mugirango, alongside other members drawn from across the country.
