Seeking responses
Onyonka will be seeking a statement from the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen.
Also, the Inspector General (IG) of Police will be expected to respond to the Senator’s concens regarding the shooting incidentOnyonka says, “the tragic event led to the loss of four innocent young lives.”
Onyonka will demand to know from the heads of security whether any of the deceased individuals had past criminal records or if they were under active investigation.
The IG should also state if forensic examinations, such as fingerprinting, were conducted to match them with the national crime database or list of wanted persons.
The police had claimed that the deceased were armed and engaged in a shootout with officers who had responded to a call for help.
Ballistic analysis
Onyonka intends to know if spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.
“Has a ballistic analysis been conducted to verify their origin,” Onyonka wonders.
The Senator also wants to know if the deceased’s phone records have been collected and analysed to track their movements and contacts before the incident and if not, why this critical aspect has been omitted.
There are claims that one of the victims allegedly visited a female employee at the bakery before the incident.
Onyonka will be seeking to know if this individual and the bakery owner have recorded official statements.
The vocal Senator will also seek to know if the police officer who discharged his firearm, provided a statement under caution, what is his current duty status and whereabouts.
On the police’s report that two suspects fled the scene, Onyonka is keen to know if they have been apprehended, and if not, be told what measures are in place to locate and arrest them.
He will also seek to know if the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) was notified, and if an investigation has been launched.
Onyonka will also demand to know when a preliminary report can be expected. On Friday, KPC reported that Nyaseti and who was killed at the scene were not criminals but lovers.
