Kenya Rugby Legends will face their South African counterparts in a two-leg SportPesa Legends Cup series in 2027, taking the competition beyond East Africa for the first time.
The opening match will be played in Nairobi on 8 May 2027, before the teams meet again in Cape Town on 4 July 2027.

The series marks a new chapter for the competition, which has featured Kenya and Uganda since its launch in 2023. Kenya won the first four editions, although Uganda claimed their maiden victory over the Kenyan side during the 2026 series.
Uganda beat Kenya 16–15 in Mombasa before the hosts recovered to win the return leg 17–10 in Kampala. Kenya retained the title with a 32–26 aggregate victory.
Kenya Rugby Legends captain Eddie Omondi said the expanded competition would help grow the profile of veterans’ rugby in the region.
“Veterans rugby has a passionate global following, and this series is a big step in growing that following in East and Southern Africa,” Omondi said.
“Bringing South Africa Rugby Legends to Nairobi, and then taking our side to Cape Town, gives fans the chance to see legends of the game up close and be part of something bigger.”
South Africa Rugby Legends, comprising former international players, are expected to travel with a full squad featuring notable players from different eras, including Rugby World Cup winners and World Rugby Hall of Famers.
Organisers said the two teams would feature familiar faces from international rugby, with the full squad lists expected to be announced closer to the matches.
Further details on the Nairobi venue, ticketing arrangements and match-day activities will be released in the coming months.
The SportPesa Legends Cup brings together former international players to celebrate rugby heritage, connect generations of fans and use sport to support community development and social impact.
