He said Kenyans should elect leaders committed to integrity, justice, economic fairness and respect for the Constitution, rather than those who would take the country back to “Misri”.
Speaking during the memorial service of the late Mzee Ephantus Njuki Njagi at ACK St Stephen’s Church, Githure, in Kirinyaga County, on Thursday, the former Chief Justice (CJ) renewed his pledge to fight corruption without fear or favour.
He vowed that no Kenyan would be shielded from justice because of political connections, wealth or public office.
“I will not protect the corrupt because they support me, know me, or hold a position in government. Justice must be equal for all Kenyans,” Maraga said.
He argued that Kenya’s biggest challenge was not a shortage of resources but leadership that enabled corruption and impunity.
Maraga maintained that all public officers must be held accountable for the misuse of public resources, regardless of their positions or political affiliations.
The former CJ said he needed only five years to steer Kenya towards a new direction anchored in integrity, justice, economic fairness and constitutionalism.
His remarks come as political leaders and aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
In his condolence message, Maraga comforted the family, friends and mourners of Mzee Njagi, describing the deceased’s life as a reflection of integrity, service and commitment to the community.
Maraga attended the service accompanied by UGM Co-Secretary General Katto Wambua, Kirinyaga Woman Representative aspirant Emma Waithera, Kirinyaga Coordinator Madam Carorose and Murang’a MCA aspirant Chris wa Gúka.
As the election approaches, Maraga is seeking to rally voters around his promise of a corruption-free Kenya, equal justice for all and a better future for every citizen.
