Team Kenya endured a day of mixed fortunes at the Pan African Karting Championship in Benguela, Angola, but Myles Imbayi stole the show by clocking the fastest lap of the day to boost the team’s hopes of a podium finish.
Following Friday’s shakedown, Saturday’s qualifying sessions saw Imbayi secure an impressive third place in the Senior Max category, while teammates Jesse Murithi and Sean Njumbi qualified 19th and 20th in their respective categories.

The opening heats proved challenging for the Kenyan team, with Imbayi failing to finish Heat 1A after a technical problem with his arrive-and-drive kart provided by Worr Motorsports.
Kenya responded strongly in Heat 1B, where Njumbi finished fourth, followed by Murithi in sixth place.
Imbayi produced the day’s standout performance in Heat 2B, starting sixth on the grid before fighting his way through the field to finish second.
He also clocked the fastest lap of the day, underlining his pace as the championship heads into its decisive stages.
However, the same heat brought disappointment for his teammates. Murithi finished seventh after a hard-fought race, while Njumbi retired after hitting a barrier, damaging a tie rod.
With Heat 3, the pre-finals and finals scheduled for Sunday, Team Kenya will be looking to build on Imbayi’s impressive pace and secure a podium finish in Benguela.
