The Council of Governors has urged residents in border towns to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected Ebola cases amid concerns over the spread of the deadly virus.

Speaking in Migori County during a boda boda empowerment event in Awendo, Council of Governors vice-chairperson and Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki urged motorcycle taxi operators to be alert to suspicious cases involving people arriving from neighbouring countries.

Njuki, who was the chief guest at the event alongside his host, Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko, cautioned riders against transporting people suspected of being infected with Ebola without alerting health authorities.

He called on boda boda operators to report suspected cases immediately to enable relevant authorities to respond swiftly and prevent possible transmission.

The governor said county governments were working closely with the Ministry of Health to strengthen surveillance and prevent the spread of the disease.

Njuki emphasised the importance of precautionary measures, noting that Ebola is a serious disease requiring vigilance and a coordinated response from both the public and health authorities.

He urged residents, particularly those living in border communities, to cooperate with health officials and report any suspected cases through the appropriate channels.
