Njuki assured fellow governors that he would stand firm whenever the interests of county governments were threatened, pledging not to side with the National Government at the expense of devolution.

Njuki was unanimously elected alongside Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, who becomes vice-chairperson, and Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi, who takes up the position of council whip.

Njuki said the Nyanza and Mt Kenya regions had maintained working relations over the years and should sustain their cooperation ahead of the next election.

Njuki emphasised the importance of precautionary measures, noting that Ebola is a serious disease requiring vigilance and a coordinated response from both the public and health authorities.
