The Nairobi Country Cricket Association (NCCA) 50-Overs Super Division bursts into life this weekend with a blockbuster Jamhuri derby as leaders Swamibapa A face arch-rivals Kanbis A at Jamhuri High School on Sunday.
It is a fixture that needs little introduction. With or without national team stars away in Rwanda for three weeks of international duty, a contest between Swamibapa and Kanbis is rarely an ordinary cricket match. It is usually fierce, passionate and decisive, with both sides eager to establish bragging rights over their traditional rivals.

There is good news for local cricket, with Kenya national team players expected back on Sunday from the ILT20 tournament in Rwanda, although their availability for the weekend matches remains doubtful because of travel schedules. Even without them, fans are expected to witness another compelling chapter in the rivalry.
Swamibapa chasing revenge
Swamibapa A, the team to beat this season, head into the derby in imperious form, sitting at the top of the Super Division table with nine wins from 11 matches, 36 points and a net run rate of 1.508.
They have already taken several impressive scalps, including a six-wicket victory over Stray Lions A at Jamhuri last weekend. Stray Lions were bowled out for 171 in 39 overs before Swamibapa reached 175 for four in 31 overs.
The result extended Swamibapa’s winning run to five matches, with their sequence reading W-W-W-W-W. Their last defeat came against Kanbis A at Eastleigh High School on July 19, 2026, giving the leaders an additional reason to want victory on Sunday.
Swamibapa will again bank on their local players, who have stepped up during the absence of their national team stars, as well as their overseas players Dhwanil Patel, Onkar Jadhav and Haswang Bhatt.
Kanbis, meanwhile, will look to Sachin Bhudia, Nelson Odhiambo and their teammates as they attempt to keep their title hopes alive.
Kanbis know what is at stake
Kanbis A occupy fourth place with seven wins from 10 matches, 28 points and the best net run rate in the league at 1.694.
They have a game in hand over Swamibapa, but a defeat on Sunday would leave their title challenge in serious danger. Kanbis have won three of their last five matches, following a sequence of L-L-W-W-W, and know that beating the leaders is crucial if they are to remain in contention.
The title race is therefore delicately poised, with the result at Jamhuri capable of reshaping the standings.
Sir Ali Muslim Club A have a golden opportunity to move to the top should Swamibapa lose. Sir Ali are level on 32 points with Ruaraka A after eight wins from 10 matches and have a net run rate of 0.462.
Sir Ali come into the weekend after thrashing Ngara Sports Club A by 121 runs, scoring 321 for eight in 50 overs before dismissing Ngara for 200 in 39.4 overs.
Both Kanbis and Sir Ali have a match in hand over Swamibapa and Ruaraka, adding another layer of intrigue to an increasingly tight title race.
Champions Ruaraka seek a response
Defending champions Ruaraka A will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat by Nairobi Gymkhana when they host struggling Ngara A.
Ruaraka have been magnificent on their home turf, with run machine Omkar Ghule and Satyalaksha Jain spearheading their batting line-up with a series of impressive scores this season.
Nairobi Gymkhana A, meanwhile, will sit out the weekend on a bye after moving onto an upward trajectory with a seven-run victory over defending champions Ruaraka A last weekend.
Gymkhana won a thriller at Nairobi Gymkhana, scoring 303 for eight before restricting Ruaraka to 296 for nine. They have 16 points from nine matches.
Stray Lions still searching for a win
Stray Lions A are still searching for their first victory and face SCLPS YL A at Peponi.
It has been a difficult campaign for the Nairobi West side coached by Lameck Onyango, who have struggled for consistency throughout the season. The contest could therefore go either way as both teams look to strengthen their position.
Despite their struggles, Stray Lions boast some of the league’s best individual batters, with Aaditya Srivastava sixth and Shubham Jadhav 11th on the run-scorers’ leaderboard.
Sikh Union A will host fellow title contenders Sir Ali A in another match carrying significant implications for the standings.
Sikh Union appear to have finally found some consistency after recording back-to-back victories over Stray Lions A and SCLPS YL A. Subham Patel’s form has helped propel his side to competitive totals, and another big contribution from him could make life difficult for Sir Ali.
Patel and Parth Chandan have been outstanding for Sikh Union this season, helping the side reach 18 points after their 68-run victory over SCLPS YL A last week. Sikh Union scored 277 for nine before dismissing SCLPS YL A for 209.
Fayaz leads the run-scoring race
Sir Ali will also look to their in-form hitman Fayaz Ahmad, the current leading run scorer, as they pursue another important victory.
Ruaraka pair Omkar Ghule and Satyalaksha Jain occupy second and third places on the run-scorers’ leaderboard, while Sikh Union’s Shubham Patel and Samaj’s Hiren Kerai remain players to watch in their respective batting orders.
The individual performances are adding another dimension to a Super Division campaign in which several teams remain within striking distance of the leaders.
Tailenders soldier on
At the other end of the table, Ngara SC A and Stray Lions A continue to play second fiddle after losing all of their last five matches.
Ngara have managed only two victories from 11 outings, collecting eight points with a net run rate of -1.602.
Stray Lions have endured an even tougher campaign, failing to win any of their 10 matches and sitting on zero points with a net run rate of -2.320.
Their contrasting fortunes with the leading sides underline the gap that has emerged in the Super Division, although there is still plenty of cricket to be played.
Unbeaten Samaj lead Division One
Division One is also set for an action-packed weekend, with unbeaten leaders Samaj B taking on Ngara B at Ngara.
Lenana-based Obuya Academy A, currently seventh on the log, will travel to Thika Road for their match against hosts Ruaraka B.
But much of the attention in Division One continues to centre on former Kenya international Collins Obuya, who has put together a remarkable individual campaign.
It’s lonely up there for Collins Obuya
Obuya has been in a league of his own for Obuya Cricket Academy A Team, producing scores that have made the Division One run-scoring chart almost a two-man race only in name.
The former Kenya international struck 96 off 100 balls against Sir Ali B, followed it with a breathtaking 209 off 125 balls against Sikh Union B — the only double century recorded in Division One so far — and then smashed 136 off 87 balls against Kongonis A.
Those performances have taken him to 624 runs from 11 innings, placing him a remarkable 258 runs clear of second-placed Sarth Kishor Waghela.
Waghela has a better batting average of 73.20, but he has played four fewer innings. Obuya, meanwhile, has combined consistency with aggression, averaging 62.40 at a strike rate of 109.28.
The two will come face to face on Sunday when Obuya Academy A meet Ruaraka B.
For a player aged over 40, Obuya’s numbers underline his enduring class. He is not only mentoring players through his own academy but continues to dominate attacks himself.
The gap at the top becomes even more striking when compared with the rest of the leading run scorers. The other four players in the top five are separated by only 35 runs, with their tallies ranging between 331 and 366, while Obuya has pulled well clear of the field.
