Construction of Nyamira University College is expected to be completed early next year, Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof. Nathan Ogechi has said.
Prof. Ogechi said the project, which has taken more than 12 years to complete, gained fresh momentum in September last year after President William Ruto met a delegation from the Gusii community and directed the Government to support the construction of the institution.

He said the groundbreaking ceremony for the current phase of construction was held in October 2025.
“We expect the final structure to be completed by the end of this year, while the final product should be ready by January or February next year,” Prof. Ogechi said.
The project will comprise more than 16 buildings, including a five-storey structure that is currently under construction.
Prof. Ogechi said construction of another building, which will house the library, as well as the university’s main entrance, is expected to begin tomorrow.
He thanked the Government for funding the project, saying the financial support had accelerated the development of the institution.
The university is also conducting continuous admissions as it prepares to expand its academic programmes.
Prof. Ogechi said once the institution is gazetted, it is expected to attain full university status within three years.
He said the institution would eventually be known as Nyamira University, rather than Nyamira University College.
The first programmes are expected to include courses in Business, Information and Communication Technology, Agriculture and Natural Resources, with additional programmes to be introduced as the institution expands.
