The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) has hailed Kenya’s successful bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships in Nairobi.
NOC-K described the award as a historic milestone for the country and the African continent.

NOC-K President Shadrack Maluki congratulated Athletics Kenya, the Government, the bid team, athletes and Kenyans for securing the right to host the prestigious global athletics event.
“On behalf of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Athletics Kenya, under the leadership of its President, Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Jackson Tuwei, the Government of Kenya, our athletes, the bid team, and all Kenyans on securing the right to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships in Nairobi,” Maluki said.
He said Kenya was ready to welcome athletes, officials, fans and visitors from around the world, adding that the championships would provide an opportunity to showcase the country’s sporting talent, culture and hospitality.
“This is more than a championship. It is an opportunity to showcase Kenya’s excellence, hospitality, culture, and sporting spirit to the world, while affirming Africa’s capacity to host and deliver major global sporting events,” he said.
Maluki said hosting the championships would help inspire young people, accelerate investment in sporting infrastructure and create opportunities for athletes and communities.
He added that the successful bid demonstrated Kenya’s commitment to developing sport and strengthening its position as a leading destination for major international competitions.
“Nairobi is ready. Kenya is ready. Africa is ready,” Maluki said, calling on Kenyans to unite in preparations for the event.
The 2029 championships will be the first time Kenya hosts the World Athletics Championships, further enhancing the country’s standing as one of the world’s leading athletics nations and reinforcing Africa’s growing role in hosting major global sporting events.
