Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has challenged county workers to improve service delivery and shun corruption as the county government intensifies efforts to strengthen revenue collection and speed up development projects.
Speaking during a meeting with county revenue officers, the governor commended county staff for their role in improving local revenue collection, saying Kisii County had recorded strong performance last year after achieving 178 percent in local revenue collection targets.

“We have agreed on how we will continue working to improve performance. I have encouraged them to stop theft and promised that their payments will go through the payroll system to reduce corruption,” said Arati.
He also praised the county’s chief revenue officer, the finance department, and Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo for ensuring smooth operations in his absence.
On infrastructure development, Arati said heavy rains had slowed down road construction projects in some parts of the county, but assured residents that the works would now progress faster as rainfall subsides.
The governor said the county planned to complete road projects in nine wards, adding that each ward was expected to benefit from at least 20 kilometres of roads fitted with culverts.
“If all goes well, by the end of next month we should have completed about 1,000 kilometres of roads across the county,” he said.
Arati further announced that construction had commenced at the county’s industrial park, where factories are expected to be established to create employment opportunities for local residents.
At the same time, the governor warned residents living in landslide-prone areas to relocate to safer grounds to avoid disasters during the ongoing rainy season.
He also directed county emergency officers to respond swiftly and support families affected by disasters across the county.
Arati said he had recently been engaged in both county responsibilities and his national duties as the deputy party leader of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which had seen him travel across the country to help strengthen the party.
