The Government has moved to address concerns over the welfare and allowances of Harambee Stars players preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Eritrea.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry said it had honoured its financial commitments arising from previous national team assignments, while payments relating to subsequent engagements were still undergoing administrative processing.

“The Government has consistently supported Harambee Stars and our other national teams in their international engagements,” the Ministry said, citing preparations, travel, accommodation, allowances and technical support among the areas covered.

The Ministry said outstanding financial obligations from previous assignments, including allowances for Harambee Stars engagements in Zambia, South Africa and Turkey, had been settled.

It also said allowances relating to the Under-20 CECAFA assignment in Tanzania and outstanding salaries for the Harambee Stars technical bench had been paid through the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and to respective members of the national team.

“Any payments relating to subsequent assignments that may still be pending are undergoing the requisite administrative processes in consultation with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF),” the statement said.

The clarification comes as Harambee Stars continue preparations for their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign, with the Government acknowledging that player welfare is central to effective preparation and performance.

The Ministry urged all parties to use the established channels to resolve any outstanding issues, warning that administrative disputes should not interfere with the team’s preparations.

“At this critical stage of our preparations, Government expects all parties to continue engaging constructively and through the appropriate channels,” it said.

The Ministry said it remained committed to supporting the national team and the wider development of football as Kenya prepares to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania under the PAMOJA AFCON 2027 arrangement.

The statement was signed by Juney Karisa, Head of Public Communications.

The Ministry’s intervention follows concerns raised over the welfare and allowances of players currently in camp ahead of the Eritrea qualifier.
