Kisumu City will host more than 300 elite cyclists from across Africa for the Confederation of African Cycling Championship from October 21 to 25, 2026.
More than 30 African countries are expected to participate in the continental competition, which will feature 15 race categories, with the action set to be broadcast live to audiences in Kenya and beyond.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said the championship would provide an opportunity for the county to showcase its tourism, hospitality and business potential to an international audience.
“More than 30 African nations will send over 300 elite competitors to ‘cycle it out’ across 15 thrilling race categories,” Prof Nyong’o said in a post announcing the event.
The governor said the championship was expected to generate business for hotels, restaurants and other players in the hospitality industry, while creating opportunities for young people in sectors including event management, transport, catering and security.
He said the county was projecting more than 1.8 million social media impressions and nearly 90,000 engagements during the event, describing the championship as an opportunity to put Kisumu before a global audience.
“This is not just a race. This is an economic injection into our county’s veins. This is tourism reborn. This is Kisumu to the World!” he said.
Residents will also have an opportunity to participate through a social fun ride that will be open to the public.
Prof Nyong’o encouraged residents to take part in the ride with their families, friends and neighbours, saying it would provide an opportunity for the county to join in the continental sporting spectacle.
The governor thanked the Kenya Cycling Federation for selecting Kisumu as the host county and said the city was ready to welcome visitors from across Africa.
“My heartfelt gratitude goes to the Kenya Cycling Federation for choosing Kisumu and trusting Dala to host Africa,” he said.

The championship is expected to bring together cyclists, officials, support teams and visitors, giving Kisumu a major sporting event as the county seeks to position itself as a destination for tourism, business and international events.
Prof Nyong’o urged residents to embrace the visitors and participate in the activities planned around the championship.
“The world is coming. Let us welcome them the Kisumu way with warmth, pride and unstoppable energy,” he said.
