The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed reports questioning the tenure of the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, terming them inaccurate, speculative, and misleading.

In a press statement issued Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from the Office of the Inspector General, the NPS said claims published in a section of the media suggesting that Amin’s tenure “ends today” were false and not grounded in law or established procedure.

“The Director continues to serve in office lawfully and is discharging his duties diligently in service to the country,” the statement read, emphasizing that matters of appointing or ending the tenure of senior security officials are governed strictly by legal frameworks—not media reports.

The Service also strongly rejected allegations linking the DCI to abductions, describing them as “erroneous, reckless and unsubstantiated.” It warned that such claims risk damaging the credibility of the Directorate and undermining public trust in security institutions.

According to the NPS, the DCI has consistently investigated all reported cases of abductions and missing persons, with some high-profile cases revealing staged disappearances aimed at generating public sympathy or misleading authorities.

“Any genuine case of abduction or disappearance is treated with the seriousness it deserves and investigated to its logical conclusion, without fear or favour,” the statement added.

The Service further highlighted key achievements under Amin’s leadership, including strengthened forensic capabilities, the dismantling of major criminal syndicates, and enhanced international cooperation, including representation at INTERPOL.

NPS cautioned media houses against sensational reporting, urging journalists to verify facts before publication—particularly on matters touching on national security.

The Service reiterated its commitment to the rule of law, protection of life and property, and professional policing, noting that it operates under strict oversight from institutions such as the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the judiciary, and Parliament.

The statement was signed by Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.
