The annual Rhino Charge motorsport and conservation event has confirmed Samburu County as host for its 2026 edition, drawing a full entry list of 65 competition vehicles.
Organizers say the event will blend adventure, community, and environmental purpose against the backdrop of Samburu’s rugged semi-arid terrain.

Rhino Ark Charitable Trust CEO Christian Lambrechts used the briefing to spotlight conservation milestones achieved over the past year, particularly in the Southern Mau Forest.
“Over the past year, we have invested considerable resources in the southern part of the Mau, a 158,000-hectare indigenous forest that forms critical catchments for the Mara, Sondu, and Ewaso Nyiro South rivers,” he said.
He noted that a new field office in Olenguruone is coordinating a major EU-supported programme, alongside private sector partnerships that have delivered a 32-kilometre fence along the northern boundary of South Western Mau.
Progress was also reported in Rhino Ark’s flagship electric fencing projects.
“Fencing on Mount Kenya is progressing well, with 318 kilometres completed to date, while in Kakamega, 50 kilometres of the planned 117-kilometre perimeter fence have been constructed,” Lambrechts explained.
He emphasized that while fencing is vital to protect ecosystems and reduce human-wildlife conflict, it also creates long-term maintenance responsibilities.
“Every kilometre of fence we build is a step towards safeguarding our ecosystems and communities—but it also increases our maintenance responsibility,” he said.
“To address this, we have established an Endowment Fund to secure sustainable financing for the future of our conservation work.”
Beyond fencing, Rhino Ark highlighted progress in community livelihoods, environmental education, forest restoration, and endangered species recovery.
The Samburu event, scheduled for May 29–31, will feature scrutineering, the main competition, and a prize-giving ceremony.
Organizers say the Charge continues to embody innovation and conservation, while offering a striking cultural and natural setting for participants and spectators alike.
