In a spirited show of environmental stewardship, the Kenya Rainforest, in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross, took part in a tree planting exercise at Nyambera Mission School in Kisii County on Wednesday.
The initiative brought together learners, teachers, local volunteers, and Red Cross personnel in a joint effort to promote sustainability and combat climate change.

Melody Mokeira, speaking on behalf of the Kenya Red Cross, emphasized the importance of involving students in such activities.
“Engaging learners in tree planting fosters environmental responsibility and instills a sense of ownership in protecting the planet,” she said.
“It also provides hands-on learning about ecology, climate change, and the importance of sustainable practices.”
Nyambera Mission School Head Teacher, Sister Lydia Marylyne, expressed her appreciation for the initiative.
“We are grateful to the Kenya Red Cross for selecting our school,” she said.
“Planting trees helps learners grow with values such as patience, care, and commitment—qualities that shape good citizens and future leaders.”
The excitement was palpable among the pupils, many of whom were planting trees for the first time.
Anna Keira, a student at the school, shared her joy:
“This is my first time to plant a tree, and I am very happy. Teachers have told us that planting trees will ensure a stable ecosystem.”
According to Mokeira, the Kenya Red Cross has participated in planting over 144,000 trees in Kisii since the beginning of the year.
The Kenya Rainforest is a network of individuals and organizations committed to restoring and protecting Kenya’s natural forests through tree planting and environmental education.
They partner with schools, local communities, and conservation groups to foster sustainable practices.
The Kenya Red Cross, a leading humanitarian organization, supports this mission while continuing its broader work in disaster relief, health outreach, blood drives, and community resilience programs across the country.
