Police in Nyamira are investigating an incident where an education official allegedly assaulted a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate in the examination room.
The student reportedly fainted following the impact of slaps and kicks that were rained on her on Tuesday.

The incident happened at Sironga Girls’ School.
The student had to be stabilized at the school dispensary after the alleged assault.
The suspect had gone to the school to assess the ongoing national examinations.
A police brief seen by KPC indicates that the incident happened after the officer spotted the student chewing something in the examination room.
The officer suspected that the student was chewing material that was not authorized in the room.
She did not recover the material but descended the candidate with slaps and blows before she left the school.
The candidate remained restless as for the rest of the morning, only to collapse as time for the paper came to an end.
She was rushed to the school dispensary, where her condition was stabilized.
“Investigations into the incident have commenced and more details will follow,” read part of the police report.
Detectives and top education officers at the county activated investigations into the matter after the student filled a P3 form.
The Penal Code (Cap 63), defines various offenses related to assault, including simple assault, grievous harm, and related offenses.
Meanwhile, multiagency teams across the country are working under the clock to ensure the examinations being undertaken are clean amid fears of leakages.
Education CS, Julius Ogamba recently said, “We want to have a clean sector for posterity and I ask you to follow the guidelines provided.”
