The surgical tools speak louder,

Each one performing at its best.

The patient’s body is conditioned for death’s threshold,

Sustained only by a heartbeat.

The other organs lie in idle mode.

Little can be heard in the surgery room—

Only the instructions

Of the lead surgeon.

Each required tool is handed over on time.

The human body functions at its operational minimum.

Its powerful influence in ordinary life

Is reduced to fragile mortality.

The surgeon, his knife and his stitches

Know when to restore and preserve.

The surgical tools rule the moment,

While the doctor’s mind mends every tear and repair.

The surgery room is not for everyone.

Even the surgeon dreads the environment.

Yet the assignment remains the same:

To bring life back to normal.

The clock guides every procedure.

Then suddenly, the mortal has life again,

As though nothing happened.
