Calls for rehabilitation of this quarry found at the edge of Ting’a Market in Nyamira have continued to be ignored, for two decades now. Over time, more than ten bodies have been retrieved from the water. There are claims that some people die by suicide while others get killed before their bodies are thrown there. On Sunday, the body of an elderly man was retrieved from the quarry as residents wondered how many more will die before it is rehabilitated. The quarry emerged after a contractor excavated murram for the construction of Kisii-Chemosit Road in the early years of 2000. Photo/ Nyang’au Araka
