Kenya will have more orthopedists soon following the offer of Orthopedic Trauma and Medicine training at Nyamira’s campus of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
This becomes the latest course at the fairly nascent KMTC branch, which also offers two other courses including nursing.

Orthopedists from the institution will improve response and care of accident survivors in hospitals within Nyamira, and reduce the cost of seeking professional attention elsewhere.
Treating accident victims is one of the most expensive undertakings, and residents even sell property including land to meet the costs in distant hospitals.
According to the campus principal, Elizabeth Onywany, they will offer the course at certificate level.
“It’s a two year course,” she told journalists after hosting stakeholders including West Mugirango MP, Stephen Mogaka.
Mogaka has been at the forefront in pushing for the expansion of the institution in terms of facilities, human resource, and courses on offer, as well as students’ population.
“This is a very important course and we encourage eligible learners to take advantage and join KMTC- Nyamira Campus,” Mogaka said.
He said the new course is on high demand the world over.
“We want to support this campus to emerge the best in offering this course,” the lawmaker said.
For one to pursue the certificate course, he/she must meet specified criteria, which includes a “C-” mean grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Interested entrants also need a C- in either English or Kiswahili, a C- in Biology, among other requirements.
It should be appreciated that orthopedics is a broad field in medicine that deals with problems related to the musculoskeletal system.
