Newly resourced Keroka Sub-County Hospital has successfully conducted its first major orthopaedic surgery, signaling hope for patients who may need such services in the future.
The level 4 hospital becomes the second health facility in Nyamira County to do so, according to a press statement from Governor Amos Nyaribo’s press team.

The beneficiary of the surgery is a 29 year old citizen who sustained injuries in a road accident.
The patient had serious fractures and got immobilised while staring at uncertainty.
The surgery is being seen as a major success story for the county whose population has been relying on Nyamira County Referral Hospital and other counties for orthopedic services.
Geographically, the County hospital is not the best choice for accident survivors from upper Borabu and Masaba regions.
The Kisii-Sotik Road cuts through the Keroka, and reports accidents from time to time.
Due to this, some patients with fractures seek attention in Bomet, Kericho and Kisii Counties.
The Keroka hospital is located within Rigoma Ward, whose representative to the County Assembly- Nyambega Gisesa has welcomed the milestone.
“Patients can now access essential orthopaedic services locally, reducing the need for referrals to distant health facilities,” Gisesa said.
A dedicated medical team and healthcare professionals led by Dr. Jared Oeba carried out the surgical procedure.
“We deeply appreciate their efforts,” Gisesa said.
The hospital can now handle various surgeries, and has in recent times had a major installation of new buildings and equipment.
The hospital received a fresh consignment of drugs and non-pharmaceutical supplies.
