The Network for Media & PR Women has joined growing public outrage over the surge in femicide and gender-based violence in Kenya.
In a statement, the network warned that the country is facing a shocking state of affairs that requires bold and resolute action.

The association condemned the brutal killing of eight-year-old Keziah Matuki in Kilifi, whose body was found defiled and mutilated, as emblematic of the urgent need for swift justice.
“Such heinous crimes have no place in Kenyan society,” the Network said, stressing that perpetrators must face severe punishment to deter similar offences.
The group decried the lenient handling of cases of violence against women, noting that silence and misogyny have allowed the problem to fester.
It called for a multisectoral approach involving communities, workplaces, private and state institutions, and the justice system to ensure that the wheels of justice turn swiftly and visibly.
“Ending it needs a multisectoral approach… the wheels of justice must turn swiftly and be seen to turn,” the statement emphasised.
The Network urged the government to reaffirm national commitments to gender equality and GBV prevention, protect safe spaces for women and girls, expand funding for specialised services, and support women-led organisations.
It also called for nationwide sensitisation through schools, media campaigns, and community outreach to challenge harmful social norms and promote gender equality.
“At this critical juncture, we urge the Government, donors, and all Kenyans to ensure that gender equality and the protection of women and girls remain at the heart of Kenya’s response,” the Secretariat said.
