The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) has issued a public alert warning that a private institution is offering nursing training without its approval, urging students and parents to exercise caution.
In an “important announcement” released on April 20, 2026, the council named Northlands International Medical Training College as an institution “purporting to offer nursing courses… without the necessary approval from the NCK.”

The regulator emphasized that it is “committed to ensuring the highest standards in nursing and midwifery education,” and reiterated that it remains “the sole authority responsible for approving nursing and midwifery training programmes and institutions in Kenya.”
NCK warned that any programme run without its accreditation is invalid, stating: “Any course offered without NCK’s approval is NOT recognized and DOES NOT meet the required standards of training and professional practice.”
The council further clarified that certain courses commonly marketed to prospective students are not legitimate.
“Nurse Aid or Nursing Assistant training is NOT a recognized programme by the Nursing Council of Kenya,” the statement reads.
Prospective students and guardians have been urged to verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling.
The council directed the public to consult its official website for a list of approved training institutions and programmes.
“This information is solely for purposes of cautioning the public and not meant to embarrass any individual or entity,” NCK noted, adding that it will not be held liable for any losses arising from reliance on unapproved institutions.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over the proliferation of unaccredited colleges offering various courses in Kenya, raising several questions including the quality of training.
