City advocate Danstan Omari says the Kenya Kwanza government and sympathisers have panicked due to the looming entry of Dr Fred Matiang’i in the presidential race.
Omari said that the impressive track record of the former Cabinet Secretary (CS) is a good starting point as he trains his eyes on the presidency in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on a local radio station, Omari alleged that some government officials fear a potential comeback by Dr Matiang’i, citing concerns over their own incompetence and corruption.
“Lazy, corrupt, and unqualified government officials are living in fear. If Matiang’i gets elected, they know they won’t survive in government,” Omari stated.
Firm stand
He praised Dr Matiang’i’s past efforts, particularly in regulating the betting and online gambling sectors — a move he said helped curb social decay among the youth.
“Unlike the current regime, Matiang’i took a bold stand against betting. Today, the youth are being destroyed by this vice — we’ve seen lives lost, suicides, broken marriages, and school dropouts,” Omari said.
“The damage is already severe, and only now is the government beginning to realize and act.”
The outspoken lawyer also criticized the government’s handling of Gen Z grievances, particularly regarding transparency in public spending.
“The government has failed to respond to the demands of the Gen Z generation, who simply want to know how their taxes are being used,” he said.
“There’s a lot of money being collected in taxes, but it’s not doing anything for Kenyans. It’s all being misused.”
Omari further warned that the proposed 2025 Finance Bill risks reigniting public unrest.
“This government seems intent on repeating the same mistakes that drove Gen Z to the streets. If they don’t change course, the consequences could be worse,” he warned.
