The Road to Somabay amateur golf series gathered pace over the weekend after the second leg at Machakos Golf Club, where four players booked spots in the national grand finale.
Colin Nzioka and Collins Kaloki qualified from Division A, while Wickliffe Musili and Augustine Mboya advanced from Division B. Musili delivered the standout performance of the day, carding 40 points to emerge overall winner.

The Machakos leg followed the season opener at Limuru Country Club, drawing a competitive field as golfers vied for limited qualification slots.
Organisers say the nationwide circuit is designed to grow amateur golf by offering structured competition and a pathway to international exposure. Each leg produces four qualifiers who progress to the grand finale later this year.
Somabay World Cup official Collins Were said the initiative is already showing promise.
“The intention is to create opportunities for players while also contributing to tourism and the growth of the sport locally. We are seeing encouraging participation, which reflects the potential within the amateur game,” he said.
He added that partnerships will be critical in sustaining the series and achieving its long-term objectives.
Commercial International Bank (CIB), Egypt’s largest private sector lender, has joined as the official financial partner, adding a regional dimension to the competition.
CIB Marketing and Communications Lead Vivian Kiberenge said the collaboration aligns with the bank’s focus on sports development and regional engagement.
“This partnership supports talent development while strengthening trade ties between Kenya and Egypt through golf,” she said.
Top performers in the series will earn a chance to compete in Egypt at the Somabay World Cup Amateur Golf Tournament.
Attention now turns to upcoming qualifiers at Ruiru Sports Club, Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, and Great Rift Valley Lodge.
With two legs complete, the race for qualification is intensifying, with more golfers expected to join the field in the coming weeks ahead of the grand finale later this year.
