Residents of Syokimau and surrounding areas have been urged to remain vigilant after a hyena was reportedly spotted along Mwananchi Road off Eastport Drive on Sunday evening.
In a public notice issued by Kenya Wildlife Service, the agency said response operations are already underway following reports of the animal’s movement within the area.

According to KWS, although the responding Problem Animal Control (PAC) team did not directly sight the hyena, fresh footprints confirmed that the animal had recently moved through the locality.
“Ground surveillance and monitoring have since been intensified, with preliminary indications suggesting the animal is moving through bushy isolated land behind JKIA towards Katani,” the notice stated.
KWS sought to calm fears among residents, assuring the public that precautionary measures had been put in place and there was no immediate cause for panic.
“KWS wishes to assure the public that all necessary precautionary measures are being undertaken and there is no cause for panic,” the agency said.
However, residents have been advised to avoid approaching or provoking the animal if spotted and to keep children under close supervision.
“Residents are however advised to remain vigilant, avoid approaching or provoking the animal, keep children under close supervision, and immediately report any wildlife sightings to the nearest KWS station or local authorities,” KWS added.
The wildlife agency reiterated its commitment to protecting both human life and wildlife as monitoring efforts continue in the area.
