Chief Justice Martha Koome has described the swearing-in of Mohammed Abdullahi Warsame as a major milestone in strengthening Kenya’s justice system and upholding the rule of law.
In a social media update after the ceremony held at State House Nairobi on Thursday, Koome congratulated Justice Warsame on joining the apex court as the 14th judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya.

“Justice Warsame brings to the apex court distinguished judicial experience, unwavering integrity, and a deep commitment to constitutionalism and the rule of law,” Koome said.
“I am confident that his service will further enrich the Court’s pursuit of justice for all Kenyans,” she added.
Justice Warsame, who has previously served in the Court of Appeal, is widely known for his jurisprudence on constitutional rights, governance, and judicial independence.
His appointment comes at a time when Kenya’s judiciary continues to face growing public scrutiny over accountability, case backlogs, and electoral disputes.
The Chief Justice also congratulated advocates Evans Thiga Gaturu and Jedidah Wakonyo Waruhiu after they were conferred with Senior Counsel status, one of the highest honours in Kenya’s legal profession.
Koome said the recognition was reserved for advocates whose careers demonstrate “excellence, leadership, and distinguished service to the legal profession.”
“As we celebrate these milestones, I reaffirm our collective duty to safeguard judicial independence, uphold the Constitution, and strengthen public confidence in the administration of justice,” she said.
The event brought together senior government officials, members of the judiciary, and legal practitioners, underscoring the continued collaboration between State institutions in advancing justice and democracy in Kenya.
