Kisii Central Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Gladys Nyongesa has called for enhanced security measures in schools, improved road discipline, and greater collaboration among local administrators to strengthen safety and development in the sub-county.
Speaking recently during Madaraka Day celebrations held at Nyanguru Primary School and hosted by Keumbu-Kiogoro Assistant County Commissioner Grace Lesoi, Nyongesa commended local administrative units for their role in reducing crime and maintaining security across the area.

“Teamwork among security agencies and local administrators has been instrumental in minimizing crime in the sub-county,” she said after the Presidential address.
Nyongesa warned boda boda operators against engaging in disputes and harassing other road users, noting that such behavior undermines road safety efforts.
She also directed chiefs and their assistants to intensify efforts to ensure a 100 percent transition rate from junior secondary school to senior secondary school within their areas of jurisdiction.
On school safety, the DCC emphasized the need for boarding institutions to strengthen safety standards, including secure dormitories, proper doors, grilled corridors, fire-fighting equipment, and the employment of qualified matrons.
She further proposed the installation of CCTV surveillance systems in all boarding schools across Kisii Central.
“Schools must prioritize the safety of learners by ensuring all required safety measures are in place,” she said.
Nyongesa also cautioned motorists against double parking in urban and suburban areas, saying the practice contributes to preventable road accidents.
The celebrations were attended by several members of the Kisii Central security team, including Sub-County Police Commander Musa Omar, Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer George Etang, Sub-County Administration Police Commander Elly Ngetich, Kisii Main Prison Deputy Officer Waningu Abraham, and Sub-County Forest Officer William Odede.
Nyanguru, where the celebrations were held, is recognized as the highest geographical point above sea level in the larger Gusii region.
Historically, the South Nyanza administrative region traces its origins to February 1903 when Karungu District was established under its first commissioner, Mr. Knight.
Over the years, the region has evolved from a single district into multiple administrative units.
Kisii Central remains one of the key administrative centers in the region and currently comprises 14 locations and 36 sub-locations, with proposals for additional administrative units in Amariba and Bobaracho under consideration.
