Race-walker Eric Shikuku, sprinters Grace Kidake and Sylvia Chesebe were among the standout performers at the Athletics Kenya Masters trials held on Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
The trials were staged to select Kenya’s team for the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships scheduled for Daegu, South Korea, from August 22 to September 3.

Shikuku, who clinched gold in the 10km walk-race at the 2024 Gothenburg Championships, once again dominated his trademark event.
Kidake and Chesebe impressed in the sprints, each leading from gun to tape in separate 400m races.
In the distance events, Florence Chepsoi from Iten marked her debut in Masters athletics with a commanding victory in the women’s 10,000m.
World champion Rosaline David of West Pokot settled for second place under chilly conditions.
Athletics Kenya Masters chairman Stephen Ole Marai expressed confidence in Kenya’s prospects, noting the strong performances.
“We are optimistic of an improved medal tally in Daegu following the stellar show in Gothenburg 2024, where Kenya bagged 26 medals — 7 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze,” he said.
A total of 20 athletes and six officials will represent Kenya in the 26th edition of the World Masters Athletics Championships.
