President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Dr Erick Rutto has joined the General Council of the World Chambers Federation (WCF).
This is a vital organ of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) that unites chambers of commerce from around the world.

WCF Chair Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu confirmed the move while highlighting the council’s renewed focus on broad and inclusive representation—particularly from Africa and other historically underrepresented regions.
Dr. Rutto joins a cohort of 20 elected and 19 members representing the Americas, Africa and the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.
Reacting to the announcement, Dr. Rutto said: “I am deeply honored and humbled by my inclusion in the WCF General Council.”
“I thank the WCF leadership for acknowledging the importance of inclusive global representation. This is a proud milestone for KNCCI and a recognition of Africa’s growing role in shaping global trade policy and development.”
He emphasized the opportunity this presents for Africa to amplify the promise of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to the global business community:
“I look forward to collaborating with fellow council members to elevate the African voice, strengthen partnerships, and help craft solutions that make a lasting impact on businesses across the globe.”
Chair Hisarcıklıoğlu echoed this optimism saying: “This year’s election highlights the strength and diversity of our global chamber network.”
“I’m proud to welcome this high-caliber group to our Council and Executive Committee, and I’m excited to work together to make WCF more inclusive, representative, and effective than ever before.”
Dr. Rutto’s new role follows Kenya’s successful hosting of the inaugural World Chambers Congress in Africa this past April.
Organized by KNCCI and officially opened by President William Ruto, the event welcomed participants from more than 65 chambers worldwide.
The congress served as a landmark platform to showcase Africa’s economic potential and foster global partnerships.
As a member of the WCF General Council, Dr. Rutto will play a key role in shaping strategic working groups that drive the federation’s agenda.
His presence is expected to strengthen Africa’s voice in global trade discussions and promote deeper cross-regional collaboration.
