Divock Origi, the Belgian striker with Kenyan roots, has officially hung up his boots at the age of 31, closing a chapter that brought unforgettable memories to fans across the globe.
In a heartfelt announcement shared on Instagram, Origi reflected on his journey from Lille to Liverpool, AC Milan, and Nottingham Forest.

“My purpose in the game as a player is fulfilled. I lived out my childhood dreams to play on the biggest stages and win the biggest trophies. I am grateful to God for all of it,” he said.
Origi’s career is most fondly remembered for his time at Liverpool, where he became a cult hero. His brace in the famous 4-0 comeback against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final and his goal in the final against Tottenham etched his name into Anfield folklore.
He also delighted fans with six derby goals against Everton, earning him the reputation of a big-game player.
Reflecting on those moments, he told supporters: “Every iconic moment, every goal, every piece of history we made together will forever be ours.”
Beyond club football, Origi proudly represented Belgium while carrying the heritage of his Kenyan roots.
He acknowledged this dual identity in his farewell message: “Representing Belgium, my nation, while carrying Kenya, my roots, was a joy.”
For many Kenyan fans, his success on the European stage was a source of pride, a reminder of the talent that can emerge from the country’s diaspora.
