The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kenyan students studying abroad following a high-level consultative meeting at the Embassy of Kenya in Beijing.
In a statement, Principal Secretary (PS) Julius Bitok said he paid a courtesy call at the mission in China, where he held discussions with the Education Attaché on the status of Kenyan learners.

He noted that the meeting provided a comprehensive update on Kenyan students in China, focusing on academic opportunities such as scholarships, institutional partnerships, and skills-based training programmes.
“The engagement provided a comprehensive update on the status of Kenyan students in China, with focused discussions on existing academic opportunities, including scholarships, institutional linkages and skills-based training programmes,” he added.
The discussions also addressed challenges affecting students, including welfare concerns, academic continuity, and integration into the host country.
According to Prof. Bitok, the deliberations aimed at strengthening coordinated support systems for learners abroad.
“We also examined key challenges affecting student welfare, academic continuity and integration, with a view to strengthening responsive and coordinated support mechanisms,” he said.
Prof. Bitok reiterated the government’s position on protecting the interests of Kenyan students overseas while leveraging international partnerships to expand educational opportunities.
“The Government remains firmly committed to safeguarding the interests of Kenyan learners abroad while deepening bilateral cooperation in education,” he stated.
He added that ongoing efforts would focus on expanding access to quality education, improving student support structures, and aligning international training opportunities with Kenya’s development agenda.
Officials present during the meeting included Chargé d’Affaires Collins Karithi, Education Attaché Albert Ombiro, Political Officers Brian Choma and Mercy Achieng, Trade Attaché Livingston Wahuro, and Immigration Attaché Geoffrey Gikonyo.
